| Reviews: | "Don´t hesitate to enter this small place, even it looks a bit shabby from the outside. The food is good and cheap." |
| "Really good sushi by a Japanese sushi chef who knows how to cut his fish well. Prices are about the same as the US. 1800 pesos or $2.40 for two pieces of nigiri. Has a lot of special rolls but the California rolls such (pollock roll/fake crab junk) He has a new refrigerator cases that keeps the fish really fresh. Rate this place as good, especially if you been travelling in Latin America for a longtime. Only one block away from Kintaro. " | |

| Reviews: | "The Restaurant Japon is mainly frequented by the local Japanese. The food is delicious and the service is nice, helpful and efficient. The restaurant itself is not a beauty (old calendars from 1988 as decoration), but it doesn´t matter. When you enter there is a little sushi bar at the left and several rooms with tables. They serve all standard starters like gyoza and yakitori which are great as well as chawan-mushi, oshinko and others. The menu offers sukiyaki, tempura, shabu-shabu, kushiyaki, don-buri and udon-soba in a rich palate. The sushi a la carte is delicious and you should ask the waiter for special chilean fishes, which are not commonly used in japanese restaurants as e.g.: Lisa (Sp) - Grey Mullet (E) - Bora (J) or Lenguado (Sp) - Sole (E) - Hirame(J). The waiter will also help in translating the spanish into japanese or english. If you don´t speak neither, just order. The prices vary from 1200 - 2000 Pesos for two pieces (3 - 5 US$)." |
| "By far our favorite Japanese restaurant in Santiago during the 4 years we lived there. Fantastic service and excellent fish selection and quality. Try the 'pulpo picante' (spicy octopus) as an appetizer. The sushi chefs are friendly, efficient and great fun to chat with. " | |

| "Don't be intimidated by the tastelessly decorated walls: sushi and tempura are good and fresh, and the prices are really a bargain, so it's very good value! " | |
| - Michael Shohat (miky@shohat.com) [July 24th 2001] | |
| "A cheap place to eat sushi, but was disappointed that it was done a Chiliean Sushi chef who's skills are limited. Cuts were sloppy and to much rice in the nigiri sushi. Good place to eat if your on a tight budget, large group, or have average standards for sushi. Two steps above supermarket sushi, but you can't beat the price-about $6 for a mix plate of 8 pieces. | Reviews: | "If you would like to enjoy real Japanese food in Santiago, you must visit MATSURI in Hotel HYATT REGENCY SANTIAGO. You will find a real Japanese atomosphere with outstnding food, the freshest tuna and sushi with beautiful dishes imported from Japan and of course with Japanese hospitality, provided by a Japanese restaurant manager and 2 Japanese chefs. Ask Mr.WATARU,the manager, what kind of sake will suit your ordered meal,he will find you a nice one immediately. For example MATSURI offers a nice sake named Matsuri, specially brewed and blended just for this restaurant. You cannot even taste this sake in Japan. The price are reasonable for the quality offered, actually I really love this restaurant with its atomosphere offering sushibar, private Tatamai rooms and Teppanyaki. If you are a Japanese food lover and visit Santiago, do not miss MATSURI. " |
| - Toshihiko Iso (emdiso@rdc.cl) [February 27th 1999] | |
| "We went to Matsuri with high expectations. The decoration is great and the atmosphere is very nice. It was undoubtedly good, but still I expected more from the supposedly best Japanese Restaurant in Santiago. Although prices are European, the food was not comparable to the best places in Cologne or Dusseldorf, except for the deserts, which were wonderful. And - they, too, didn't have Maguro. " | |
| - Michael Shohat (miky@shohat.com) [March 13th 2002] | |
| "Hi Sushi and Sashimi lovers! I went to this 'upscale japanese restaurant' in the Hyatt hotel and this was because of the positive reactions in this blog. Normally a restaurant like this is overpriced and not that good. However the blog said that there were Japanese people working and a good selection! On top of this most of the restaurants are closed on Sunday so I was forced to test this one. Service was great , very nice people but no Japanese chefs here!....... they did not even know the Japanese names for the food....So all by all ..never go to a 5 star hotel to expect good quality and OK cost! I prefer the small family restaurants owned by Japanese who know the real deal. I spend 5 days in Sao Paulo and stayed at the Pestana and found 1 block from this hotel a perfect small family restaurant with great food and atmosphere. " | |

| Opened: | Dinner: 7 pm - 11 pm, closed Sundays. |
| Reviews: | "The Restaurant Mikado is located in its own two storey building with a little front garden in the borough of providencia, which is one of the expensive ones in Santiago. The Mikado is a Benihana style restaurant where the cook prepares the menu at a special hot plate in front of you. You can choose from several combinations with beef, chicken, shrimps plus an assortment of vegetables. The cook prepares your food in the standard Benihana style including some comedy like throwing pieces of shrimps onto your plate without even watching. The food is well prepared. They don´t serve sushi besides sake (salmon) which is very delicious as anywhere in Chile, because the country has a long time experience in breeding salmon. The service is excellent including escorting the guests to their taxi." |
| "The Mikado is closed. It looks like it is being remodeled. " | |

| Reviews: | "The best in Japanese Food." |
| - Esteban Barbieri S. | |
| "As a sushi lover, I must say that Miyoshi is the best japanese place in Santiago. Perhaps not so elegant and fancy but really cute and warm in the inside. Waitresses are very kind. There is a sushi chef (Mr. Yuya Kaneko) behind the counter, who speaks excellent Spanish /English and will prepare any kind of roll, nigiri, temaki, hosomaki etc. you wish. Miso soup is great there (specially for a rainy day) and hot dishes too. Besides all of the above, their prices are REALLY cheap specially for visitors (non residents). " | |

| "The best sushi bar in Santiago, very friendly, good, safe area with great night life near by. Found this place on this web site and told the chef I knew his name. He was surprised and I told him that I know all about him because I was from the CIA. He laughed! Easy going fun guy who worked in Boston. He misses the states, but he has his business down here for now. Great food, fresh fish, and lots of fun. Has a lot of special rolls and different fish you can't usually get. Highly recommended from someone who eats sushi everyweek in Los Angeles. Tell him 'Ted' the American from the CIA sent you... " | |

| Name: | Shoo-Gun |
| Address: | Enrique Foster Norte 172, Santiago / Las Condes |
| Opened: | Mon-Sat: 12 noon - 3 pm, 7 pm - 11 pm, closed Sundays. |
| Reviews: | "The Shoo-Gun is located in Las Condes, a nice and expensive borough in the east of Santiago. It's the most beautiful Japanese restaurant in Santiago with a sushi bar and several rooms with standard tables. The spanish menu is written back to forth to honour the japanese. Besides main courses it offers several starters which are not too exciting (Itawasa a bit smelly and dry, no leek in the yakitori and the sunomono boring). Anyway, forget the entrées and order excellent sushi in huge portions. Besides standard fish like maguro (atun in spanish), ebi (camaron) or hamachi (palometa) they serve local fish like lenguado, corvina, reineta and viejo which are worth a try. There is a sushi chef (the Chef) behind the counter, who speaks excellent spanish and pepares any maki or temaki you wish. The chilean waitresses are not yet perfect, but they do their best, especially when the sushi chef ignores them for a while when they ask for more wasabi for a guest. If you want more gari (ginger) with your sushi, you really have to insist and they will ask 2US $ per extra portion. The prices reflect the location and the quality but are still lower than in the western world." |
| - THE SUSHI WORLD GUIDE [February 27th 1999] | |
| "Went August of 2004, and actually got sick when I arrived home from the bacteria in the sushi. SUPER EXPENSIVE, tiny portions which are equal to a Bento box lunch in the US. Very small variety of rolls which are way too thin, the amount of ginger that is free is not at all US sz portions. It fits on the tip of your small finger. U want xtra they charge u. Slow waitresses, sake more expensive than 12 yr wiskey. NOT a repeateable experience. By no means...dinner for 2 was $75 US in Chile!! I could have a boat for 3 in any Sushi place in the US. Overpriced, WITHOUT knowleable staff. WORSE of all I ended my evening in the WC/Bathroom. US people stay away, we know our Suhshi!!! " | |
